5 Bambole Per La Luna D´Agosto
La Morte Bussa Due Volte

Music by Piero Umiliani

With his exuberance in fluent melodies and creative arrangements, Piero Umiliani registered the voice of an era in his soundtracks.

5 Bambole Per La Luna D'Agosto (1970) and La Morte Bussa Due Volte (1969), favored the best of "muzak playboy" of its moment: pop swings (expanded to jazz) highlighting the electric organs, harpsichords and sensuality bordering on caricature. 5 Bambole, alternates two basic themes to suspenseful tracks, as Danza Primitiva and Interlude Giallo, but always with light-pop dominance and always with a humorous orientation where "musical fun" prevails over technique. The impeccable performances are assured by the anthological vocal group I Cantori Moderni leaded by Alessandro Alessandroni.

La Morte Bussa Due Volte (1969) delivers catchy pop melodies and once again the group I Cantori Moderni is one of the highlights. Among the great moments of jazz-ambient as Stutterer, Continuità and Crystal, the emotional main theme is developed in different versions and jazzy variations. Other climatic moments or assumed jazz-kitsch, prove that there was no limit to Umiliani´s musical force. Two valuable releases of one of the most inventive jazz composers in cinema.
