Anatomy of a Murder

Music by Duke Ellington

"The techniques that Duke started working on in the early 20´s have been refined. This is the album with the mature sound of the band "- Winton Marsalis

Possibly one of the greatest works in the jazz language made for a film, Anatomy of a Murder (1958) is a kind of musical catalog of Duke Ellington´s work.

The entire production of the composer seems to be mirrored or referenced in each of the tracks. From the composer of suites can be heard the intricate construction of the main theme, Anatomy of a Murder. From the unbeatable composer of standarts, Flirtbird and Happy Anatomy and from the romantic melodist, the irresistible Grace Valse. Extra attention for the magnificent Haupé, with luminous performance of saxophonist Johnny Hodges. Highlights impossible to be labeled as jazz or even as film soundtrack are the violin in Low Key Lightly and the delicacy of Sunswept Sunday. The nocturnal atmosphere of Midnight Indigo, for example, is another rarity in the jazz tradition for its abstraction and the sound of celesta. This expanded CD edition includes previously unavailable tracks plus bonus tracks with rehersal sessions.
