Bilitis
Music by Francis Lai
One more time in charge to pack a film where visual content is more important than drama, Francis Lai exceeded expectations with his music for Bilitis.
Slow pacing themes and exemplary instrumental mix of acoustic, electric and electronics, the score balances between classical and popular reference. The classic atmosphere (as in the slow waltz Spring Time Ballet) alternates elegantly to pop themes as I Need a Man and Melissa, both referencing the period soul / disco – with emphasis on electric bass and electronic keyboards. The track Rainbow also includes in this line, with a jazz-pop led by alto sax and the main theme Bilitis, in electronic execution, it is perfect with its slow tempo and atmosphere of erotic holiness. On a sum up of rare beauty and in a career of great works, Bilitis stands out as the best and most fluent creation of the composer having become, unsurprisingly, his best seller.
