Elliot Goldenthal

[1954 -] One of the most versatile and original composers of modern American cinema. Goldenthal studied with Aaron Copland and John Corigliano and wrote for a multitude of projects exercising his skills in various genres (oratorios, masses, chamber music, etc.). The music for Cocaine Cowboys (1979) was one of his first works for films. With Drugstore Cowboys (1989) and Pet Sematary (Pet Sematary, 1989) got more detach and Alien 3 (1992) made him a well known name in the cinema medium. With a style difficult to define because of the variety of what uses - combining classical tradition, avant-garde, electronic and rock – Goldenthal is already pointed as successor of great talents like Bernard Herrmann and Jerry Goldsmith. A quick example of this variety can be seen in the comparison of soundtracks like Demolition Man (1992), Interview With the Vampire (1994), Batman Forever (1995), Heat (1996) and Public Enemies (2009). Mention also must be done to the ambitious work developed for the stylized films of director Julie Taymor as Titus (2000) and The Tempest (The Tempest, 2010).
