Histoire D´O

Music by Pierre Bachelet

Based on the eponymous book by Emmanuelle Arsan, the film Emmanuelle (1974) was a success who oriented the so called erotic-chic and made eroticism migrate from alternative circuits to a wider market. Almost monothematic, the soundtrack of Pierre Bachelet is a marathon of variations for the beautiful main theme, Emmanuelle in the Mirror. An economic proposal but effective in its hypnotic effect by repetition. Bachelet delivers alternative material in themes like the rock'n'roll Night Club, the climatic Emmanuelle Swims, and the ballad Cigarett Act. Interestingly, the Rape Sequence and Emmanuelle-Instrumental Variation tracks are unexpected approximations (rhythmic and harmonic) to Lark's Tongues in Aspic II, by the progressive group King Crimson.

Director and compitor follow the successful recipe of Emmanuelle in Historie D'O. And of course the music would be consequent from the previous score with its delicate instrumentation and a beautiful main theme. A theme (along with Emmanuelle) that can easily be referred to as classic of the genre. Together, the two scores form a delicate hypnotic and introspective musical scape with keyboard textures basing most of the tracks. Proper classics of its era. The partnership between composer and director Jaekin would extend in Le Derniere Amant Romantique (The Last Romantic Lover, 1978) and Gwendoline (1983).
