Il Gatto Dagli Occhi Di Giada
Music by Trans Europa Express
Thriller seldom mentioned, Il Gatto Degli Ochi Di Giada was an average try to repeat the ambitious aesthetic of Dario Argento films. Inevitably its soundtrack would be a variant in the progressive/electronic proposal of group Goblin.
Commissioned for the soundtrack, guitarists Mauro Lusini (author Cera un Ragazzo Che Comme Me) and Gianfranco Coletta created the group Trans Europa Express for the occasion. As it seems, the short life of the group was restricted to this composition that basically merges instrumental rock and electronics, and of course much electric bass following the successful line of Goblin. After all, after Fabio Pignatelli pumped up the volume of his Rickenbaker for the Profondo Rosso soundtrack, throbbing basses become a sound cliché of thrillers. But in Il Gatto Degli Ochi Di Giada music goes beyond mere influence and includes very cool stuff. Experiments with echo notes and rhythmic repetitions come to remember the Pink Floyd (in Seq 12). In other tracks the music balance heavy sound with the acoustic delicacy of folk guitars (Seq. 14) on a beautiful track of progressive school (guitar and synthesizers). Inventive in small passages, as the liturgical climate (for Guitar) in the closing theme (Seq. 20) Il Gatto Degli Ochi Di Giada is a score that it is better heard away from the film. A cult surprise that is equivalent to other contemporary as Goblin, Reale British Empire and Libra.
