La Piscine
Music by Michel Legrand
La Piscine (1968) was an suspense by Jacques Deray with script by Jean Claude Carriere trying an approach to the success of Plein Soleil. The film has the same mais actors, Alain Delon and Maurice Ronet and also Romy Schneider, who had a brief appearecnce in Plein Soleil.
The music of La Piscine oriented to the pop/rock of the moment with many themes heard as source music: directly from real sources (turntables, radios, parties). The unbeatable romanticism of Legrand permeates the tracks as in the beautiful main theme the two voices in polyphony. The theme Suspicion already rehearses the melody of Summer of 42. Curiously is the only theme used as dramatic soundtrack when the couple Delon and Schneider recognizes the instability of their relationship and its near end. Its version for guitar and vibraphone (Une Enquete) is especially beautiful. Some pop numbers slip into comic as Dans La Soiree and Piege a Reflets that includes a gypsy flavor violin (of Stephane Grappelli). Some unusual vocal arrangements caused strangeness and the director has reduced many of them in the film. In the CD selection are also included music excerpts from Un Homme Est Mort (1973) in pop swing with bass and organ, typical of police thrillers of the period and the sad romanticism of Un Peau du Soleil Dans l'Eau Froile (1972). Another essential release of Ecoutez le Cinema series.
