Escape From the Planet of the Apes
Music by Jerry Goldsmith

Science fiction classic that made history with his anthological and still striking conclusion, Planet of the Apes (1968) was also one of the most inventive and daring works of Jerry Goldsmith.

Essentially percussive, the score has a strong link with the modern and avant-garde music (Varese, Stravinsky). The track The Hunt, for instance, has a clear influence of Rite of Spring. Various effects of percussion as percussive metal sheets, metal shells, marimbas, guiros integrate the sound palette. The good moments in dynamism and relation to the images are many, as the dispersion of Main Title – with hibernating crew on the ship – the oppressive chase for Taylor (Charlton Heston) in the ape´s citadel in No Escape, or the fight among the men in the cage in The Revelation. The Varese Sarabande edition contains the complete soundtrack for the first time and also brings a sixteen minutes suite with the music for Escape of the Planet of the Apes, in which Goldsmith repeated the rhythmic virtues usual of the series and adapts it to added contemporary world (of the 70s). So the exotic rhythmic inventions of the first film receive instrumental pop / rock (guitars, bass and drums) with the usual vigor of the composer.
